ASSESSING MASS MEDIA AND ITS INFLUENCE ON ENDSARS PROTEST

ABSTRACT: This study was carried out to examine the  influence of mass media on EndSARs protest using Lagos State as a case study. Specifically, the study examined the role of mass media in Nigeria.the study also, ascertain the extent of influence of mass media on EndSARs protest a case study of Lagos State. The study further, Evaluate the role of mass media on EndSARs protest. Lastly, the study  outline strategies that can enhance mass media in Nigerian politics in its diverse ranges of activities. This study was carried out using the secondary source of data which includes, internet,journals, published and unpublished articles.the findings revealed that the EndSARs protest started because of harassment and brutality of the youth by the Nigerian police. Furthermore, that mass media influence cannot be over emphasized as it contributed to the success of the protest.finally,that the Nigerian youth were able to mobilize and coordinate themselves through the help of mass media. The study hereby recommend that the disbanding of SARS and establishment of SWAT as pronounced by the Inspector  General of Police should be backed up with action, signaling a reform by prosecuting officers  involved in brutalizing the masses. also, Government, whether Federal, State or Local government, in collaboration with security agencies, Civil Society Organizations and traditional/religious institutions should create avenues and listen to the millions of voices calling for police reform and see an opportunity to transform relations between police and communities.
